{"id":4635,"date":"2011-03-28T21:02:15","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T20:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sarahjyoung.com\/site\/?p=4635"},"modified":"2011-03-28T21:22:54","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T20:22:54","slug":"russian-literature-and-the-big-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sarahjyoung.com\/site\/2011\/03\/28\/russian-literature-and-the-big-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian Literature and the Big Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It comes as something of a relief to learn that the <a title=\"Academics fury over order to study the big society \" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/education\/2011\/mar\/27\/academic-study-big-society?CMP=twt_gu\" target=\"_blank\">Observer&#8217;s story<\/a> about the government linking research council funding to the study of the Big Society turns out to be exaggerated, but given that our funding is at the mercy of\u00a0the AHRC&#8217;s decisions about research themes, which in turn are dictated by their need to persuade the government that the research they fund is socially useful and gives value for money, I&#8217;m not sure it actually makes much difference. But perhaps Russianists need not despair &#8211; after all, we know a thing or two about research in the service of state propaganda.
